Meet My People: Desiree Natali

Incase you’re new here, or just forgot, I launched a series called Meet My People Mondays. Every other Monday you will get to hear from one of my closest friends. They will share about themselves, me, and our friendship. I truly believe there is no better way to know me than to know the people around me. They are going to be just as real and as honest as I am. I want you guys to get to know the people I love, while also getting to see me from one of my friend’s point of view.

Meet My People: Desiree Natali

Desiree Natali, is one of those friends that you meet by accident and over time you become really close and don’t really understand when or where or how it happened. Desiree is one of those friends that keeps excitement in your life, makes you do things you wouldn’t normally do, and challenges you! I was thinking of all of our memories and most of them are super crazy ones or ones that make you laugh until you pee yourself. That’s a good friend to have if you ask me! We have spent countless hours over the past few years laughing, crying, being weird, and making memories. College wouldn’t have been the same without Desiree. Desiree and I were in small group together our freshman year and then Desiree continued coming to my small group for two years after that. She is someone who cares so much about her friendships, considering she only allows a certain few to get close enough to really know her. I am lucky to say that I am one of the select few. Desiree is someone you can count on in good times and bad. I am so thankful our paths crossed and that she was able to stand next to me on my big day. Desiree, thanks for always staying true to who you are, being open to learning and growing with me, and being one of the most loyal friends I’ve ever had!

The way this will work is…I asked her a series of questions, some about her and some about me, and I copied them word for word into this document. All of my input, if any, will be italicized and in parentheses. This is how it will be for each person. So, let’s dive in:

What’s your name? Desiree Natali

How old are you? 22

Married? Single (so single)

Pets? Two pups

Kids? No kids, just pups

Describe yourself in 5 words?

Humorous, extroverted, kind, complex and active.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m an emotional shopper. I have a piece of clothing for every time I was happy, or sad, or mad. It’s a sad, sad addiction, but I look so great because of it. (I can vouch for this, it’s true.)

What are you reading right now?

Ugh, nothing. I’ve actually been meaning to buy a book to read. But the last book I read was Carve the Mark which was SO GOOD. Highly suggest it if you’re into sci-fi/action/romance.

What was the best thing that happened to you this past year?

So many great things, it’s hard to choose just one. But it would be my career. I’ve been working towards it since I was just a kiddo in high-school and now I’m #livinthedream

What’s your favorite animal? And why?

Dogs, they’re the most loyal and loving animal to me. They’re the perfect cuddle buddy, running partner and they’re always excited to see you.

What do you do for a living?

This week I’m a social media and e-commerce coordinator for Panacea jewelry, but next week I will be a social media coordinator for Fossil Group. (SO AWESOME!! I didn’t know about this!!)

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Honestly, I don’t know. I hope to have traveled abroad, graduated from grad school, have my own place and be married. But I feel like life is so unpredictable, I can think of a million variances of where I could be at 27.

What was the best year of your life? And why?

21. It was the first time I really left home to spend a summer in NYC (which is one of my favorite places). It was my version of eat-pray-love, and when I came back I felt like Desiree 2.0.

What is your favorite way to pass the time?

Spending time with my friends and family.

 What is your personality type?

According to the myers-briggs personality test I am ENFP aka the Inspirer. Pretty much I am a people person who is very passionate with a strong personal value system. But I tend to neglect things that don’t excite me, and can come off as inconsistent and difficult to understand.

 What is your love language?

Quality (talk) time. I love when people make a consistent effort to hang out with me, and stay engaged while we spend time together. When I get an invite from someone it’s the equivalent of sending me a bouquet of flowers.

 What are your strengths?

I am very self-aware (after many years of working on this).

 What are your weaknesses?

My uncomfortableness with being vulnerable, while also being unable to hide my feelings well. Ironic, huh?

 Who is your hero/role model?

My mamacita. She’s the strongest person I know, and my favorite brunch buddy.

 What is your dream job?

Brand manager for a fashion company.

What is the best advice you’ve ever given/heard?

“Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.”- Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

What is your favorite bible verse? And why?

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

It’s the perfect verse to remind me that God’s love is always present even when it doesn’t feel like it.

If you could share anything with the people on the blog what would you say?

My advice would be to your readers is to learn to forgive. I feel like we live in this culture of holding in anger, hate and being unforgiving to show strength. I feel like I constantly hear stuff about people cutting their friends off and bragging about being petty. Something I really regret about my spiritual life and my past relationships with friends and family is my inability to choose love when I was hurt or angry. It’s honestly the BEST feeling in the world choosing love and forgiveness, even when the other person doesn’t deserve it. Life’s too short to hold on to the negativity and at one point or another everyone in your life is going to hurt you. People make mistakes, and in the words of Hannah Montana nobody’s perfect. Communicate, let the grudge go and be happy. (Good stuff!)

 How did you meet Courtney?

Through a Chi Alpha small group.

What was your first impression of her?

So friendly and joyful. I was so glad I found someone just as loud and extroverted as me. But her vulnerability made me uncomfortable. (I think my vulnerability still makes Desiree uncomfortable!)

What’s your favorite thing about Courtney?

One of my favorite things about Courtney is how bold and authentic she is. She’s 100% herself, and that sort of energy is contagious.

How has Courtney impacted your life?

Courtney is one of the only people who has really pushed me to be vulnerable with people and find strength in that.

If you could describe Courtney in one word, what would it be?

Which blog post has been your favorite so far? And why?

I’m sorry I don’t know the title but it was like “it’s okay to not be okay”. I used to be the person who always said I was doing good out of habit, but when you open up it paves the way for authentic relationships, plus some healing. The blog post was a good reminder to keep that going.

Share a memory or story of you and Courtney:

Honestly the memories I love most aren’t an extravagant funny story or anything. I just loved the times I would hang out with her and have deep talks. But to keep it interesting, I will tell the story of Courtney and I driving to Tennessee. We were playing mafia together and I don’t know why this game had us so turnt, but we decided that a 12 hour drive there and back (24 hours total) was worth stabbing someone with a spoon for points to win a fictional game. (Keep in mind there was no prize for winning, just bragging rights.) Neither of us told our parents, because of course they would be mad to find out that instead of being Denton getting our education we were on the interstate armed with spoons and water guns. We were under the impression we would get so many points by doing this we would win the game by a LANDSLIDE. Once we made the kill (aka poked someone with plasticware) and were on our way back home we were informed we got like 300 points. We were expecting like 800. We were so defeated and delusional from exhaustion we started talking about how we looked like wheat bread? There was a lot of screaming, not screaming words but just screaming in frustration. It’s probably one of the most impulsive and stupid things I have done to date, and I love explaining it to people just to see their reactions.

Anything else you would like to say about yourself or Courtney:

I really miss living 5 minutes away from her. (Aw! Me too, friend!)
