Life with a Puppy that Sheds

This Christmas, our family grew by four little feet! We welcomed Winston the Corgi into our lives and I have never cried more in my life. I have dreamed of the day I would be a corgi mom and now it’s my reality. We love our little dude and the biggest and ONLY downside of having a corgi is that they shed…like a lot. They shed the most during the Spring and Fall season, so Summer hasn’t been so bad.

3 Tips to Living with a Puppy that Sheds:

1 // Bathe them regularly (but not too regularly)

We use the Burts Bees 2 in 1 Puppy Shampoo to clean our guy. We bathe Winston once a month because Corgi’s fur is so fragile that it can be damaging if you over wash it. Look up your breeds specific fur type and the bathing recommendations for them.

He isn’t the biggest fan of baths still but treats always help and lots of praise when he does good!

Other options for older dogs that tailor specifically to their needs:

2 // Brush them on a regular basis

We don’t take Winston to the groomer (yet!). We brush him on our own regularly. Here are some of our favorite affordable tools:

These Brushing Gloves make brushing easy to do during your day to day life. You can use it while you watch tv or while they nap. This pack comes with two! One for you and a pet brushing friend!

This Pet Grooming Brush that reduces shedding! It’s rated an Amazon Best Seller and is SO worth $15.

3 // Invest in a nice vacuum and always have a lint roller handy

No matter how much you bathe them or brush them, shedding dogs gonna shed. So you want to have a good vacuum handy for cleaning and a good lint roller for quick fixes.

A Little Pupdate

Winston is almost 8 months old. He weighs a little over 20 pounds and already has a signature corgi butt. He’s so funny. He loves to watch television like he actually watches it (his head moves back and forth as words move along the screen). He knows how to sit, shake, and find a treat hidden in someone’s hand. He’s really smart and loves to herd people, toys, and everything in sight. We’re still learning how to potty outside and not inside, but when you gotta go you gotta go. His favorite foods are cheese, chips, and anything we drop on the floor. He loves to chew and jump on the bed. He’s my best bud and I am so glad to be his dog mama.
